UNWTO & World Travel Market (WTM) Ministers' Summit is to have a sister event in 2012 - the UNWTO and Arabian Travel Market (ATM) Forum which will take place during the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai (30 April - 3 May 2012).

International tourist arrivals are estimated to have grown by 7% in the first half of 2010. While growth was modest in April as a consequence of the closure of European airspace following the eruption of a volcano in Iceland, results were strong in May (+10%) and June (+8%). Data available for July indicates that growth is set to continue at a steady rate.

International tourist arrivals increased by 7% in the first four months of 2010. The 3% increase registered in April marks the seventh month of growth in international tourist arrivals after 14 consecutive months of negative results.

Growth returned to international tourism in the last quarter of 2009contributing to better than expected full-year results, according tothe latest edition of the UNWTO World Tourism Barometer. Internationaltourist arrivals fell by an estimated 4% in 2009. Prospects have alsoimproved with arrivals now forecast to grow between 3% and 4% in 2010.This outlook is confirmed by the remarkable rise of the UNWTO Panel ofExperts' Confidence Index.

World Tourism Day, celebrated annually on 27 September, will be taking place this year in Accra, Ghana. As part of the official celebrations UNWTO will collaborate with the host country to organize a Think Tank around the 2009 theme 'Tourism: Celebrating Diversity'.

International tourist arrivals exceeded 6% growth in 2007 on the back of strong global economic growth. Developing countries grew by 8%.

Following the successful World Tourism Day 2007 theme 'Tourism opens doors for women', the General Assembly underscored the importance of World Tourism Day (WTD) to be conceived as a yearly campaign to raise awareness on the constructive social role of tourism.

International tourist arrivals for the first eight months of 2007 point to a continuation of the sustained growth rate experienced over the past years.

The year 2007 has started on a higher than expected note for global tourism. From January through April, international tourist arrivals worldwide rose by over 6% to 252 million, representing an additional 15 million arrivals as against the same period in 2006, according to the latest UNWTO World Tourism Barometer.
