Chuck Scharer to Oversee Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course & Restaurant
Edgewood Companies, owner of Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course & Restaurant, has named Chuck Scharer president and chief executive officer. Scharer has served as a member of the board of directors of Edgewood Companies since November 2008.
"Edgewood Tahoe has a history of excellence, thanks to strong leadership, a committed staff and the legacy of service and commitment to community started over 100 years ago," Steve Johnson, chairman of Edgewood Companies, said. "Chuck was appointed president and CEO because he has a proven track record and already has a vested interest in the success of the company as a current board member. The Edgewood community is thrilled to have him at our helm."
A veteran of the hotel/casino industry, Scharer served as president and chief executive officer of Harveys Casino Resorts, based in Lake Tahoe, Nev. from 1995 until his retirement in January 2001, and as chief financial officer from 1988 to 1995. During his tenure, Scharer helped Harveys become one of the most respected and successful companies in the hotel/casino industry.
Since leaving Harveys, Scharer has been active with several organizations. From July 2001 to January 2010, he served as a member of the board of directors of Monarch Casino & Resort, Inc., the parent company of the Atlantis Casino Resort in Reno, and sits on the board of directors of Barton Memorial Hospital located in South Lake Tahoe, Calif. Scharer applied his vast knowledge of tourism and entertainment as a member of the Nevada Commission on Tourism for three terms, appointed by former Gov. Kenny Guinn in 1999.
"Wherever I go, people are familiar with the Edgewood name and associate it with excellence," Scharer said. "To now be a part of the Edgewood team is a great honor and I am very enthusiastic about what the future has in store for our customers, for our employees, for our communities and for our shareholders."
Scharer, a Certified Public Account, earned his bachelor¹s degree of science in business administration from San Jose State University in San Jose, Calif. He replaces Brad Nelson, who resigned in June after serving as Edgewood Companies' president and CEO since January 2007.
