  • Deloitte Economic growth has slowed a bit. Various special factors are weighing on a few sectors. The 'government-aided' recovery likely needs to transition to a 'jobs-aided' pickup

    Highlights from this month's issue:

    • Overview: Economic growth has slowed a bit. Various special factors are weighing on a few sectors. The “government-aided” recovery likely needs to transition to a”jobs-aided” pickup

    • Retail: The ending of several government incentives will likely continue to hold back certain retail sectors. Improving incomes, however, could offset those short-lived government stimuli

    • Motor Vehicles: Unit sales of vehicles in May rose, but dollar sales declined. Sales to fleets/businesses are not counted in the dollar-based retail sales figure

    • Consumer Products: Stronger levels of consumer demand continue to boost production

    • Aerospace & Defense: Unlike the other manufacturing groups mentioned in this report, A&D production continues to drift downward

    • Process & Industrial Products: Production of nonenergy materials and machinery are both up by healthy double digits from year-ago levels

    • Lodging: Revenue per available room has risen for three consecutive months
